QuestMark works with a client who used to get undeliverable mail returned to them. After a couple of months, they had an entire office filled with bins of undeliverable mail. Our client hired employees to manually go through the returned mail and enter either new addresses into or delete them from the database. They would often wonder if there was any alternative to this laborious and tedious practice.
Secure destruction is a perfect resolution to this headache. Using IMb technology, the Secure Destruction program identifies, intercepts and securely shreds letter-size pieces of Undeliverable- As-Addressed (UAA) First-Class Mail® with personal protected information that would otherwise be returned to the sender (RTS). Secure Destruction is an opt-in service that operates under the protection and supervision of the United States Postal Service at no additional cost to mailers.
There are multiple benefits to registered mailers, which include:
-
- Reduction of in-house costs for handling and destroying Return to Sender (RTS) mail.
- Visibility into the process through daily automated notifications from QuestMark or on StatifyKPI™.
- Improvements in privacy protection for customers.
There are also mailing industry benefits, which include:
-
- Carbon emissions reduction (i.e. greenhouse gases). The USPS estimates that for every 25,000 pieces of carrier delivered Return To Sender (RTS) mail that is destroyed, carbon emissions are reduced by an average of 1 metric ton of CO2.
- The process takes place within secure USPS facilities by Postal employees, reducing risks of information exposure.
- All securely destroyed mail will be recycled, thus reducing the demand on natural resources.
We’ve had clients say this feature sounds too good to be true. The good news is that it’s not. You can sign up anytime. Here’s a short and very thorough video that explains secure destruction.
